Every Monday in City Heights, two good things happen side by side. From 12 to 8 PM, local artists take over the Winona Avenue pop-up with prints, music, and food. And from 5 to 6 PM, kids ages 5-12 play completely free soccer at the park next door.
No registration, no fees, no experience needed — just water, sneakers, and a willingness to have fun. Volunteer coaches run small-sided games so every kid touches the ball constantly. Parents can browse the market, meet neighbors, and watch from the sideline.
Why free play matters
Free weekly play is how many families discover organized sports for the first time. It's also our favorite recruiting ground: several of this fall's Mountain Hawk league players kicked their first ball on a Monday night. Come find us next Monday — the art starts at noon, the soccer starts at 5. (Placeholder draft — confirm the final park location.)
